Use case · 3D Top-Hat

Robust, compact laser marking.

Marking has to stay legible despite surface tolerances and unevenness, while housings keep getting smaller. A combi-function beam shaper replaces a full focusing system, so marks stay reliable from a compact setup with no active focus control.

Product: 3D Top-Hat Application: Marking Benefit: Compact setup
Challenge
  • Precise marking despite surface tolerances and unevenness
  • Optimising both reject rate and marking speed
  • Managing ever more compact system dimensions
Result
  • Reliable marking — a combi-function shaper replaces the full focusing system
  • Robust against surface tolerances and unevenness
  • Compact setup — no active focus control and no f-Theta lens
One beam shaper does the job of a focusing system: extending depth of focus so marking stays sharp on uneven parts, in a fraction of the space.
Setup & conditions: scanner · beam shaper · passive focus extension · uneven product. The extended focus depth keeps the mark in focus across surface height variation: no active focus control, no f-Theta lens. The QR-code profile is a separate example of direct marking with a shaped beam (1 mm measurement scale), included here to show what a shaped beam can write.
Compact setup: scanner, beam shaper and passive focus extension keep the mark in focus on an uneven productSchematic of the compact marking system: a scanned beam passes through the beam shaper and a passive focus extension to mark an uneven product reliably, with no active focus controlAlso possible: direct marking, a shaped beam writing a crisp QR code (measured profile, 1 mm scale)Measured laser beam profile forming a crisp QR code in green, produced by a beam shaper for direct marking
